Rachel and I are living in Baar, a smallish town connected to Zug, a larger town, which sits at the head of the Zugersee, a smallish but beautiful lake in central schweitz. We're 20k south of Zurich, the largest city in this country, but it's no large city.
You have cows, undulating hills, sharper and more vertical mountains, lime colored and lush meadows, and an interesting juxtaposition of ancient houses, churches and structures with newer apartment buildings, and modern train stations and shopping centers. It all fits together though.
There are construction cranes beaming into every skyline you can see in this country. Want a photo of a 600 year old church with the lake behind it? Forget it, there'll be a crane in the view somewhere. There are probably a dozen or so in Zug alone. The recession hit here, but not like in the US. They are still building, those swiss, since Zug has the lowest tax rates in the country (some of the lowest in Europe for that matter), and many of the world's wealthy elite are based here--at least their numbered accounts are based here. The car dealerships are actually selling their ferraris and porsches here.
The main church is a few blocks away from the house.
The house is a few hundred meters from the bahnhof.
